Thailand's economy saw a marginal expansion in October on a monthly basis, driven by continued export growth along with increased foreign tourists and private consumption, the central bank said on Friday.

Exports, a key driver of the Southeast Asian country's economic growth, rose 0.7 percent compared to the previous month, led by sales of electronic and machinery products and electrical appliances, according to the Bank of Thailand.

Foreign arrivals picked up 11 percent due to higher numbers of tourists, particularly from short-haul markets, resulting in a rise in tourism receipts, said the central bank's senior director Pranee Sutthasri.

Private consumption improved 1.3 percent, partly owing to the government's economic measures, which also boosted activities in the service sector, Pranee told a news conference.

However, manufacturing output remained broadly unchanged, with higher electronics production offsetting a drop in petroleum output caused by temporary maintenance shutdowns, she said.

The Thai economic outlook shows signs of recovery, supported by the gradual resumption of industrial production, tourism expansion, and growth in electronic exports, the central bank noted.
