Vietnamese women who give birth to two children before the age of 35 will be eligible for financial support and priority access to social housing under a draft Population Law presented to the National Assembly on Wednesday, local media VnExpress reported.
The proposed law aims to address falling fertility rates and a high gender imbalance at birth, the report said.
It also proposes extending maternity leave by one month for women having a second child and granting men an additional five working days of paternity leave.
In addition, the bill calls for incorporating gender equality and anti-sex selection measures into community codes of conduct. Medical practitioners who disclose a fetus's gender for nonmedical reasons would face suspension of their professional licenses.
