Tourism agents have joined efforts to clear water around temples in Cambodia's renowned Angkor Archaeological Park, prioritizing tourist safety, said an APSARA National Authority (ANA)'s news release on Wednesday.
ANA is the government agency responsible for managing, safeguarding and preserving the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO-listed world heritage site, situated in northwest Siem Reap province.
"Continuous rainfall has caused short-term flooding in some temples that lack proper drainage systems or have narrow drainage channels," the news release said."To address this issue promptly, tourism agents at various temple sites have actively contributed to clearing water and ensuring the safety of visitors, helping to prevent accidents and potential risks."
Sun Keophakdey, head of the Ta Prohm Temple Tourism Agents, said that during heavy rains, certain areas within the Ta Prohm Temple complex often became waterlogged.
He said that he frequently led his team to dig temporary water channels and remove debris or small plants along the drainage edges to help water flow more quickly, making it easier for tourists to visit safely.
"Beyond Ta Prohm's perimeter, some other temples also experience temporary flooding," he said."In these cases, tourism agents use various tools and materials to scoop or divert water away from the main tourist pathways."
Keophakdey reminded all visitors to Ta Prohm and other temples to be cautious, avoiding wet areas, walking carefully to prevent slips, and complying with"No Entry" signs, which indicate restricted or potentially dangerous zones.
According to the news release, in addition to Ta Prohm, tourism agents across the Angkor complex have remained attentive to visitor safety and continue their efforts to preserve the beauty and dignity of these ancient temples.
The 401-square-km Angkor Archaeological Park is home to 91 ancient temples, which were built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.
The park attracted a total of 705,269 foreigners from 171 countries and regions during the January-September period of 2025, making a gross revenue of 32.7 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales, according to ANA.
