Cambodia's insurance industry registered a gross premium of 275.3 million U.S. dollars in the first eight months of 2025, up 13 percent from 243.5 million dollars over the same period last year, an Insurance Regulator of Cambodia (IRC) report showed on Monday.

The growth was generated from 18 general insurers, 14 life insurers, seven micro-insurance companies, and one reinsurance firm, the report said.

The total amount of claims incurred was 65.9 million dollars during the January-August period this year, up 27.4 percent from 51.7 million dollars over the same period last year.

The Southeast Asian nation's insurance sector currently has more than 1 billion dollars in total assets.

IRC's director general, Bou Chanphirou, said the insurance industry has been playing a vital role in supporting the social security system and proactively contributing to the national economy.

He said the kingdom's insurance penetration was 1.17 percent of gross domestic product in 2024, as the insurance density was 22 dollars per person.
