The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) plans to use solar energy in rice mills producing rice for export, U Ye Min Aung, president of the Myanmar Rice Federation told Xinhua on Friday.
Solar-powered rice mills can help promote sustainability and net zero initiative, not only supporting the need for electricity but also paving a strategic way for clean and environmentally friendly rice production, he said.
Solar energy will be generated not only for the downstream industries such as rice mills, but also for the upstream rice farming, irrigation and water farming, enabling farmers to get access to affordable and clean energy, he added.
As part of this initiative, MRF has completed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 17 solar companies, he said.
