A Training of Trainers (ToT) bakery and pastry course, funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund 2022, was launched at the Center for Tourism Development in Yangon on Monday.

Under the LMC-funded establishment of bakery and pastry training project, Myanmar's Ministry of Hotels and Tourism said it will open 10 basic bakery and pastry courses and five ToT courses in total.

The launch of the first ToT course on Monday coincided with the presentation of course completion certificates for students from batch six of the basic bakery and pastry course.

Speaking at the event, U Kyaw Swar, deputy director-general from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the bakery and pastry course would help develop the skills of youths and women in Myanmar and promote food services in the tourism sector.

U Kyaw Swar also expressed gratitude to Chinese government for providing funds for LMC projects in Myanmar.

Pan Feng, the cultural counselor of the Chinese embassy in Myanmar, said the training course is an effort to promote tourism cooperation between China and Myanmar and to promote human resource development.

He also urged the trainees to learn the bakery and pastry skills well, saying that vocational training is one of the main pillars for the development of the country and the promotion of China-Myanmar friendship.

On Monday, a total of 20 students attended the first day of the ToT course at the Center for Tourism Development in Yangon.

The course will be taught five days a week, Monday through Friday, until Feb. 26.
