Electricity projects funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) special fund 2023 will bring full access to electricity in villages in Myanmar, according to the Department of Rural Development on Thursday.
The projects aim to provide full access to electricity in villages that do not have access to electricity and improve the living standards of local people, U Myo Myo, director of the Rural Electrification Division under the department, told Xinhua.
A mini-grid and water access project was being implemented in Kan Pate village, Dedaye township of Ayeyarwady region, and a mini-grid and small cold storage facility for aquatic products project was being implemented in Mekong village, Bokepyin township of Tanintharyi region, he said.
The local people will be able to access electricity and run small businesses using electricity, while religious buildings and public buildings will also be able to use electricity regularly, he said.
"There is no need to rush seized aquatic products to Yangon. By having such a cold storage facility in the village, we don't need to export small quantities in multiple batches, which can reduce transportation costs," he said.
The projects were expected to be completed by August 2025 and more projects with LMC special funds will be launched in other regions and states, he said.
