A crop yield assessment center established under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund (LMCSF) 2022 was inaugurated in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Myanmar's Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung said that the ministry's Department of Agricultural Land Management and Statistics has implemented the project.

It aims to replace the current crop cultivation inventory collection system, which relies on human labor, with drone technology for data collection. Additionally, remote sensing and geographic information systems technologies will be utilized to analyze and evaluate the yield of the crops, he said.

The primary goals of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation encompass supporting the socio-economic development of the countries in the Mekong region, fostering prosperity, achieving sustainable development and narrowing the development gap, he added.

China initiated the LMCSF in 2016 with the aim of supporting the small and medium-sized cooperation projects put forward by the six Lancang-Mekong countries, comprising China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
