The Confucius Institute of Cambodia University of Technology and Science (CICUTS) and five major enterprises in Cambodia signed an agreement Friday on the establishment of a comprehensive training base, offering Cambodian students both Chinese proficiency training and vocational skills.

The CICUTS was jointly founded by the Federation of Khmer Chinese in Cambodia and the Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology (NJUIT).

The signing ceremony was presided over by Som Ratana, undersecretary of state of Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, rotating Chair of the Federation of Khmer Chinese in Cambodia Luong Chan Huy, and NJUIT President Xie Yonghua.

Ratana said the base, as a new achievement in the Cambodia-China education cooperation, will play an important role in training technical talents in Cambodia.

"I hope the CICUTS will continue to deepen teaching reform, optimize talent training model, and make new contributions to Cambodia-China cooperation in the education sector, so our ironclad friendship can be passed on from generation to generation," he said.

Chan Huy said the cooperation was conducted within the China-Cambodia "Diamond Hexagon" cooperation framework.

"The CICUTS will offer both Chinese proficiency and vocational skills to local talents, so they can help build a Cambodia-China community with a shared future," he said.

Xie said the comprehensive training base will give an opportunity to students to learn both theories and practices.

"It will not only improve the employment competitiveness of Cambodian students, but also produce capable talents for enterprises in Cambodia," he said.

The five enterprises are Cambodia Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., ZTO Express Cambodia, Smile Shop, Linkkhmer software and Cambodia ASEAN International Institute.
