More than 60 journalists from the six Lancang-Mekong countries gathered in the capital of Cambodia on Wednesday for a training workshop on media engagement for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Mekong region.

Organized by the International Relations Institute of Cambodia (IRIC) of the Royal Academy of Cambodia in partnership with the Club of Cambodian Journalists, the second Mekong journalism training workshop would help journalists better understand the politics, economics, societies and cultures of the Lancang-Mekong countries.

IRIC's director-general Kin Phea said that over the course of three days, the participants would gain insights into political and electoral systems, environmental and socio-economic landscapes, and regional cooperation frameworks, among others, of the Lancang-Mekong countries.

The workshop was also a platform to enhance information sharing and networking among journalists across the Lancang-Mekong region, he said.

The six Lancang-Mekong countries include Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Originating from the Qinghai-Tibet plateau in China, the river is called the Lancang River in China, and the Mekong River when flows through the other four countries before emptying into the sea.
