Over 200 students and teachers from nine schools in China, Thailand, and Laos took part in a four-day exchange program of the 2022 "Green Lifestyle for Children in Lancang-Mekong Countries" Activity. The program kicked off in Nanning, the capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Nov. 30, 2022, and was held both on and offline.

The program was organized under the Lancang-Mekong cooperation (LMC) mechanism, and its purpose is to promote communication among young people from the Lancang-Mekong countries (China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam) and to raise people's awareness of ecological preservation and environmental protection.

Liang Chunhua, vice-chairwoman of the Women's Federation of Guangxi; Yu Dongyun, member of the CPC Committee of the China National Children's Center; Vonexay Lamanyphone, vice consul of the Lao Consulate General in Nanning; and Wasin Dhamavasi, deputy consul-general of the Thai Consulate General in Nanning, took part in the opening of the event in Nanning.

Yu said that youth represent the future of the world and that it is good to see young people from the three countries communicate with each other on the topic of the environment's sustainable development and share their experiences and knowledge on this subject.

Liang said that she hopes the activity can contribute to exchanges between the Lancang-Mekong countries, particularly in children's affairs, and advance the building of a community with a shared future in the LMC region.

Wasin Dhamavasi pointed out that activities related to ecological environment education can constantly help enhance young people's ecological awareness, promote the friendship among young people in the region, and advance the green development of the Lancang-Mekong countries.

Sirin Liyawarakhun, a Thai student studying in Nanning, said, "I am very happy to participate in such activities in China, and I hope to work with more friends to protect our earth in the future."

Since its launch in September, the 2022 "Green Lifestyle for Children in Lancang-Mekong Countries" Activity has received positive responses from many schools in the Lancang-Mekong countries. The program has promoted the green development of the Lancang-Mekong countries with concrete actions, such as building sister schools, conducting teacher training and sharing, collecting children's visual art works, and creating a platform for children to showcase their ideas.
