The opening ceremony of the 2022 "Green Lifestyle for Children in Lancang-Mekong Countries" Activity was held on Sept. 23.

Huang Xiaowei, vice president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Khamphao Ernthavanh, Lao ambassador to China; and Sittikorn Chantadansuwan, minister-counsellor of the Thai Embassy to China, took part in the ceremony in person or via video link, along with more than 200 students and teachers from the Lancang-Mekong countries as well as representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China.

In her address at the event, Huang said that the activity aims to build a platform for communication between the Lancang-Mekong countries to jointly promote the happy and healthy growth of children, so that when they grow up, they will become active builders of a better homeland for mankind and important contributors to the friendship between peoples.

Huang added that China is willing to join hands with all Mekong countries to deepen exchanges among their youth; build a beautiful homeland of peace, stability, prosperity, and beauty; and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Khamphao Ernthavanh spoke highly of the development of children's causes in China and the work of the ACWF. She expressed her willingness to actively promote exchanges between women and children in the Lancang-Mekong countries, enhance people-to-people bond and jointly write a new chapter in the Lancang-Mekong cooperation (LMC).

Sittikorn Chantadansuwan said that the activity would prompt the Lancang-Mekong countries to continue their traditional friendship and help build a greener Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future.

Representatives of schools in the Lancang-Mekong countries said that the activity would help raise children's environmental awareness, and let the concept of green development take root in their hearts so that they will contribute to the ecological conservation in the Lancang-Mekong countries.

The "Green Lifestyle for Children in Lancang-Mekong Countries" Activity is the first children's exchange program that the ACWF has launched under the LMC mechanism. The activity consists of teacher training, sharing of children's works on green development, and exchange camps on environmental protection, among other projects.
