Think tank forum on Mekong studies held online

The Think Tank Forum of the Global Center for Mekong Studies (GCMS), co-hosted by GCMS China Center and GCMS Myanmar Center, was held online Dec. 10, 2021.

More than 40 representatives attended the forum, including those from the GCMS centers of six Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) countries, LMC centers on water resources, environment, agriculture, and youth exchange, other ASEAN countries, the Mekong River Commission (MRC), Asian Development Bank, Mekong Institute, Peking University, Yunnan University, China Foreign Affairs University, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. 

Rong Ying, vice president of the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and director of the GCMS China Center, delivered the opening speech.

Participants conducted in-depth discussions on the achievements and experiences of the LMC during the past five years, as well as new topics and trends that will underpin the cooperation over the next five years. 

The GCMS is an important platform for LMC exchanges among think tanks. The participants of the forum lauded the LMC's achievements over the past five years, and pledged to continue to strengthen cooperation and complement each other's strengths while offering advice and suggestions for the region's steady development.
