The final round of the 20th 'Chinese Bridge' contest, an annual Chinese proficiency competition for non-Chinese college students hosted by the Chinese embassy in Laos and the Confucius Institute at the National University of Laos (NUOL), was held in Vientiane, Laos on July 19, 2021.
Viengnakhone Vongvixai, from the Faculty of Letters of the National University of Laos (NUOL), outcompeted the other nine contestants to claim the title and will represent Laos in the 20th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in the global finals.
Themed "One World, One Family," the competition is comprised of three parts: the keynote speech, a knowledge quiz, and the talent show.
Qin Chen, counselor of the Chinese embassy in Laos said that after years of development, the "Chinese Bridge" competitions have bridged the hearts of people, and selected and trained a number of outstanding Chinese language talents in Laos. He hoped that more Chinese learners in Laos will learn more about Chinese culture and contribute to enhancing and deepening the friendship.
Houngphet Chanthavong, vice president of the NUOL, said the annual "Chinese Bridge" competition provides an important platform for Lao students to learn and experience Chinese culture. He hoped the contestants may become ambassadors for the two countries' friendship, to contribute to the promotion of the Laos-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and the Laos-China Community with a Shared Future.
