The Cambodian government awarded the Medal of Friendship and Cooperation to seven Chinese medical experts on June 11 for their outstanding contributions to the fight against the pandemic in Cambodia.

Khek Sysoda, the Cambodian Ambassador to China, presented the medals to the Chinese experts at the awards ceremony at the Cambodian embassy in Beijing.

"China and Cambodia have helped each other during the pandemic. At the early stages of the outbreak in Cambodia, our Chinese friends sent us materials and a medical team. The experts are here today," she said in an address during the ceremony.

Seven medical experts from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region shouldered the responsibility to support Cambodia in March, 2020, as the first medical team China sent to ASEAN countries. The team brought over 4 million yuan worth of supplies to the Cambodian people.

Ai Xiang, the leader of the medical team, said that they joined local experts to visit hospitals, communities and transportation hubs. The team helped identify difficulties, especially managing epidemic prevention and control during the Cambodian New Year Holiday. They shared Chinese experiences and gave suggestions in expert meetings.

The Cambodian ambassador said the work of the seven Chinese medical experts had strengthened the long standing friendship between the two countries, setting an example across the world for joint efforts to fight the pandemic.
