More than 50 representatives from six countries including Chinese officials and diplomatic envoys of the Mekong countries to China attended Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Week activities on Water Resources held in Yunnan from April 26 to 29, exchanging views on updating water resources cooperation.

The delegation visited water resources facilities like Nuozhadu Hydropower Plant and Jinghong Hydropower Plant and Manmi Resettlement Village, as well as local biodiversity conservation education bases, such as a rare animal rescue station, a fish reproduction station and a rare botanical garden.

Throughout the trip and presentations, envoys acknowledged more about Chinese efforts on scientifically managing its reservoirs and protecting the ecological environment.

Htun Htun Oo, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Myanmar in Beijing said, "we recognized China has always tried to regulate the Lancang River reservoirs to ensure downstream water demand during both dry seasons and floods."

"Further enhancing and upgrading the Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation requires the six countries' effort and wisdom," said Zhong Yong, head of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Water Resources Cooperation of LMC from China, at the seminar.

Zhong said the six countries should continue implementing projects to ensure the safety of dams and drinking water to benefit people. The goal of LMC is to enhance the ability to address difficulties in water resources management and foster a shared community for countries in the basin.

Sreng Sataro, Minster Counsellor of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Beijing recalled that Cambodia benefited from 55 projects that supported a broad range of cooperation activities in the field of rural development, community business creation and water resources.

The LMC mechanism was established at the first LMC Leaders' Meeting held in Sanya, South China's Hainan province, in March 2016, to facilitate cooperation among China and Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
