On Jan. 9, the 6th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Senior Officials' Meeting was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with high-level officials from the six Lancang-Mekong countries finalizing the Five-year Action Plan and the Phnom Penh Declaration for the upcoming 2nd LMC Leaders' Meeting.

On Jan. 10, the second Lancang-Mekong Cooperation leaders' meeting was held in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, with a theme of "Our River of Peace and Sustainable Development." The meeting approved a Five-year Action Plan (2018-2022), charting the course for the LMC's development into the next decade.

On Jan. 30, the third Youth Innovation Competition on Lancang-Mekong Region's Governance and Development concluded at the National University of Laos. It was the first time the competition had been held outside China.

On Feb. 2, the launching ceremony of the Lao National Water Information Center aided by the Chinese government was convened in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

From March 1 to 2, the second meeting of the Joint Working Group on Water Resources was held in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand.

From March 21 to 22, the Lancang-Mekong Roundtable Dialogue on Water Environment Management and the Launching Ceremony of Lancang-Mekong Environment Cooperation Yunnan Office were held in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan province.

On April 11, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Village Head Forum was held in Mangshi city, southwest China's Yunnan province. The Mangshi Initiative on Cooperation between LMC Villages and Cooperatives was released during the event.

In June, the launch ceremonies of the Lao, Cambodian and Thai centers of the Global Center for Mekong Studies were held.

From June 27 to July 6, the Training Program for LMC National Secretariats/Coordination Units was held in Beijing.

From July 2 to 3, the 2018 Lancang-Mekong cooperation media summit was held in Vientiane, Laos. The meeting was attended by senior officials and media representatives of Laos, China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

From July 31 to Aug. 1, the Joint Working Group on Water Resources convened the first consultation on the draft Five-Year Action Plan on Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation (2018-2022) in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan province.

On Aug. 6, the launch ceremony of the Global Center for Mekong Studies (Vietnam Center) was held at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.

On Sept. 13, the Lancang-Mekong Countries Production Capacity and Investment Cooperation Forum was held in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

From Oct. 10 to 11, the Joint Working Group on Water Resources convened the second consultation on the draft Five-Year Action Plan on Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation (2018-2022) in Luang Prabang, Laos. The final version of the action plan was created after the consultation.

On Nov. 1, the first Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Forum was held in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan province.

On Dec. 17, the 4th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Luang Prabang, Laos. The meeting adopted the Joint Press Communiqué, and issued a progress report of the year 2018 on implementing the LMC Five-Year Plan of Action, a list of the projects supported by LMC Special Fund in 2018, and a research report on the LMC economic development zone composed by think-tanks of the six countries. The anthem for the LMC was also released.

From Dec. 17 to 21, the LMC Workshop on Flood and Drought Management was held in Dali, southwest China's Yunnan province.
