Thailand Universities and Scientific Institutions Actively Participate in Lancang-Mekong Cooperation

On December 18, China and Thailand signed the LMC Special Fund (LMCSF) project cooperation agreement for 2020. As part of this cooperation, China will support Thai universities and scientific institutions in conducting projects dealing with haze control, Mekong river ecological protection and cassava industry transformation and upgrading, respectively.

Since the establishment of the LMC mechanism in 2016, Thai universities and scientific institutions have actively participated in the implementation of LMC projects. Up to now, with the support from the LMCSF, Khon Kaen University, Chiang Mai University and other universities, as well as scientific institutes including the National Institute of Metrology(Thailand)and Thailand National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), great efforts have been made to promote projects in the fields of economic and industrial development, public health services and environmental protection.

The project jointly proposed by universities including Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Thammasat University and scientific institutions including the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) and Hydro-Informatics Institute has entered the review stage. Universities and scientific institutions are actively promoting the deepening and substantive progress of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and providing intellectual and organizational support for the sustainable development goals of the sub-region.
