Vietnam's animal feed import up slightly in 8 months

Vietnam spent over 2.6 billion U.S. dollars importing animal feeds and materials for animal feed production in the first eight months of this year, up 1.5 percent against the same period last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs on Tuesday.

Its largest suppliers included Argentina, Brazil, China and the United States.

Between January and August, Vietnam imported more than 2 million tons of wheat worth 521 million U.S. dollars, seeing respective year-on-year surges of 23.2 percent and 15.8 percent, and spent roughly 1.5 billion U.S. dollars importing nearly 7.3 million tons of corn, up 11.7 percent and 12.3 percent respectively.

Last year, Vietnam spent more than 3.7 billion U.S. dollars importing animal feeds and materials for animal feed production, down 5.1 percent on-year, with the biggest import markets being Argentina, Brazil, China and the United States, said the department.
