Vietnam's footwear export down in 7 months

Vietnam raked in over 9.5 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear between January and July, witnessing a year-on-year decline of 7.9 percent, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Thursday.

The largest importers of Vietnam's footwear products included the European Union, the United States and China.

In the seven-month period, the country also earned nearly 1.9 billion U.S. dollars from exporting handbags, wallets, suitcases, hats and umbrellas, down 13.3 percent from the same period last year.

In 2019, Vietnam reaped nearly 18.3 billion U.S. dollars from exporting footwear and over 3.7 billion U.S. dollars from handbag export, witnessing respective year-on-year rises of 12.7 percent and 9.9 percent, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
