Three people, including two children, have drowned while swimming in a river in Vietnam's central Nghe An province, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The 43-year-old woman, together with her 8-year-old son and 7-year-old nephew took a bath in Lam river in Hung Nguyen district on Tuesday afternoon. At around 7 p.m. local time on the same day, local people found their motorbike and belongings left on the riverbank and called for search and rescue forces, the report cited local authorities as saying.

The victims' bodies were found early Wednesday morning.

Because of the hot weather, people living nearby often go swimming in the river in the past few months. This is a dangerous area where drowning often occurs and local authorities have put up many danger zone signs but people still ignore them, according to the report.

An average of 2,000 children in Vietnam die of drowning every year, making it the leading cause of injury-related deaths for children in the country, according to its Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
