On June 23, the director of the Consulate of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Cambodia, located in Siem Reap, attended the commencement ceremony held in Siem Reap regarding the second phase of the rural water supply project.
Ouk Rabun, Minister of rural development of Cambodia, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Chinese government for its selfless assistance in his speech. He mentioned that the rural water supply project assisted by China would directly benefit the rural residents in Cambodia. It would definitely consolidate the China-Cambodia friendship.
The commencement ceremony is for the second phase of the rural water supply project assisted by China in Cambodia. Its mission is to drill a total of 964 wells and build 54 new ponds in 10 provinces, including Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Thom and Pursat Province so as to provide clean and sanitary water to remote villages in these 10 provinces. In addition to clean and sanitary drinking water, the 54 newly excavated ponds will also provide clean water for local agricultural irrigation and livestock. It is expected that the project will benefit more than one million rural residents directly upon its completion.
