Thailand's northern province of Nan on Friday became the first Thai province to reopen electrical appliance shops in department stores, malls and large retail stores.

Nan province's communicable disease committee said it has since April 21 decided to allow the reopening of the essential goods.

However, Nan Governor Worakitti Sritipakorn said business operators of the reopened facilities must clean the shops regularly and thoroughly, especially frequently touched surfaces, dispose waste every day, provide soaps, alcohol gel, or disinfectants for staff and customers, and limit the number of customers inside the store.

"In addition, operators, staff and customers must wear face masks, wash their hands, and have their body temperature taken before entering the store," he said.

Nan is one of the nine Thai provinces with no confirmed COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the outbreak in Thailand.
