The 2020 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Week Online & Yunnan Minzu University International Day kicked off at Yunnan Minzu University on March 23. Around 100 overseas students from five Mekong countries, student representatives of the 26 Yunnan aboriginal nationalities and Chinese students studying abroad in Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar met online to cheer each other up amidst the fight against the epidemic outbreak.

With the theme of“One heart, One home”, the activity has compiled touching videos produced by five Mekong countries to offer their support towards China. It reviewed the wonderful moments of 2019 Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Week held last year at Yunnan Minzu University.

Duan Gang, vice president of Yunnan Minzu University, thanked the five Mekong countries for their support and help during China’s fight against the epidemic on the behalf of more than 30,000 teachers and students of the university. He also recalled with fond memories the friendly exchanges that have occurred between the six countries. He stated that as long as the six countries unite, they will eventually overcome the epidemic.

One Vietnamese student from Lancang-Mekong International Vocational Institute under Yunnan Minzu University demonstrated how to make Vietnamese sticky rice dumplings through a video. In the video, she explained,"Vietnamese sticky rice dumplings are wrapped with many layers of leaves. This represents unity. I am making this today in hopes that the six countries will work together to fight the epidemic."

Ma Lin, a Chinese student from the same institute who is currently studying abroad in Thailand, said that although many overseas students are in foreign countries, they have been very concerned about the epidemic situation in China. Nonetheless, it is very encouraging to see Chinese people overcoming the difficulties step by step. They were also deeply moved to see the Thai government and Thai people offering great support to China. Long live the relationship between the Chinese and Thai people!

After the event was broadcasted online, it received an overwhelming response. Many international students mentioned that although COVID-19 is ferocious, and brings unprecedented challenges to all countries around the world, they believe that as long as the six countries are willing to help each other and share the hardships together, everyone will eventually overcome the epidemic and protect their homes.
