Cambodia exported around 222,000 tons of rice to China in 2019, an increase of 35% over last year, hitting a record high, according to China Inspection and Certification Group Cambodia Co., Ltd.
Chen Qisheng, general manager of the company, said that the significant increase in rice export from Cambodia to China in 2019 was mainly due to China's increased purchase volume in accordance with the rice trade agreement between the two governments. Many rice processing plants in Cambodia have also increased their production and supply capacity.
Chen Qisheng said that the exported rice would be inspected by inspectors appointed by CCIC (Cambodia) before packaging.
Agriculture is one of the pillar industries in Cambodia, and rice is the most important agricultural export product. Song Saran, president of the Cambodian Rice Federation, said that after the exporters attended the 1st China International Import Expo, Cambodia rice exports to China have increased significantly, with China becoming the largest market for Cambodian rice exports.
