Authorities have completed an international joint patrol on the Mekong River.

The 89th Mekong River joint patrol concluded Friday, as two Chinese law enforcement boats returned to the Guanlei Port in southwest China's Yunnan Province. The patrol involved China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.

One hundred and twenty-eight law enforcement officers participated in the mission aboard six vessels. They covered 542 km in four days, according to the Yunnan provincial public security department.

The authorities held a consultation meeting on emergency response capability in Laos.

China and Laos will conduct a one-week joint training in key waters after the patrol.

The Mekong River is a vital waterway for cross-border shipping among China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. It is known as the Lancang River in China.
