Three people have been killed and two others injured in a jade mine landslide in Myanmar's Kachin state, local police told Xinhua on Tuesday.

Caused by the collapse of a pit wall, the landslide occurred at an old jade mining site in Seikmu village tract in Hpakant township of Kachin state late Monday, the township police said.

The two seriously injured were sent to the Hpakant General Hospital for treatment.

Deadly landslides are frequent in Kachin state, especially in Hpakant mining region.

Many locals make their living by jade scavenging in the region and most of the landslides are caused by the partial collapse of tailings heaps and dams.

A major fatal landslide occurred at a jade mining site in Hpakant township on July 2 this year, killing at least 174 jade scavengers and injuring 54 others.
