Myanmar's authorities seized some 772 tons of illegal timbers across the Asian country in the past two weeks, said a release from the Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation on Wednesday.

The seizures were made in the country's regions, states and the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory from Nov. 9 to 22.

The seized illegal timbers included 132.8 tons of teak, 77.7 tons of hardwood and 562.2 tons of other types of timbers, the release said.

During the period, 94 people were charged in connection with the cases, along with the seizure of 70 vehicles and machines.

The seizure marked the latest efforts by the Forest Department to crack down on illegal logging and trading of forest products in the country. Meanwhile, the department has also been committed to implementing tree planting projects.
