Large haul of narcotic drugs seized in Myanmar's eastern state

Myanmar authorities seized a large haul of narcotic drugs worth over 1.8 billion kyats (over 1.3 million U.S. dollars) in two townships of Shan state, according to a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Wednesday.

According to the release, the anti-narcotic police made a seizure in Nawnghkio township on Monday.

A total of 14.3 kg of heroin and 16,000 stimulants were confiscated from a car along with two suspects.

The township police filed a case against the suspects under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the release said.

On the same day, 80 kg of methamphetamine (ICE) were seized in Kunhing township of the same state.

According to the latest release issued by the President's Office, a total of 1,407 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar while 2,152 people were charged in connection with the cases as of Nov. 14 this year, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department on June 26, 2018.
