Vietnam's Center for Mekong Studies Kicked Off

  On 6 August, the Vietnam's Center for Mekong Studies was successfully launched at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV). Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen Vu Tung, President of DAV, and Dr. Rong Ying, Director of the GCMS-China Center delivered remarks at the ceremony. Representatives from the embassies of Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Thailand in Hanoi attended the event.

  More than 70 participants from Vietnamese line ministries and institutes also joined the launching ceremoy, including Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Hanoi National University and Vietnam National University (Ho Chi Minh City).

  After the ceremony, the GCMS-China Center delegation had round-table discussions with DAV, Institute for Chinese Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and Vietnam Institute for Development Strategies respectively. A representative from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation China Secretariat joined the above events.
